-
- A call to engage in a contest, fight, or competition
- act or statement of defiance; a call to confrontation
- A demand for explanation or justification; a calling into question
- A test of one's abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking
- Boycott corporate media
Alternative media sources are committed to providing reliable and honest information about the world to a public that is bombarded with lies, half-truths and fear-mongering.
- Turn off your television
North Americans spend upwards of 250 billion hours watching TV, with over 80 billion of those hours devoted to advertising. Television distracts, anaesthetizes and steals valuable hours from our lives and further, it is linked to obesity and violent behaviour. Rather than sitting on the couch, talk to your friends, family, look out your window, or better yet go outside!
- Set your own standards
Don’t be a sheep. Question everything before you internalize it and institute it into your life. Set new moral imperatives for ways of living that are more harmonious, peaceful, and sustainable. Redefine yourself on your own terms and let go of outside pressures to blend into the crowd and be just another sheep.
- Build community
We live in an atomized society where people feel disconnected form their neighbours and their peers. By connecting with people with an emphasis on sharing and cooperation, you increase your exposure to the creativity and worldviews of others. Communities built on mutual respect and support can become blueprints for a saner, more humane world.
- Reclaim the media
Amidst massive conglomerates of corporate media it is harder than ever to get to the core of information that matters. Don’t sit and wait for the news to be made. Take back the megaphone and make your own headlines.
- Ad bust
Why are corporations allowed to deface public space? Why are these spaces for sale? Our skylines and parkways are increasingly obscured by advertisements for products we don’t need. With a marker or a can of spray paint you can take control and combat corporate sight-pollution.
- Think
Resist the urge to be a passive info-sponge. Question what you are told and be critical about what you are taught; chances are the truth lies somewhere between the lines.
